ENTRIES NOW OPEN – Baking NZ Christmas Mince Tart Competition 2025

Entries are now open for the annual Baking NZ Christmas Mince Tart Competition. This event recognises excellence in festive baking and provides bakeries with the chance to showcase their craft at a national level. As in previous years, there may also be media present on the day.

  • Registration closes: 5pm, Thursday 9th October 2025
  • Entry delivery: 7am–4pm, Tuesday 14th October
  • Delivery location: Daily Bread, Britomart – 13 Galway Street, Auckland 1010
  • Judging: Wednesday 15th October

Entry Rules

Category: Fruit Mince Tarts
Eligibility: Open to all commercial bakeries in New Zealand
Entries: One entry per bakery
Awards: Gold, Silver, and Bronze will be awarded to the top three entries
Requirements:

  • 6 identical fruit mince tarts per entry
  • Each tart must weigh between 40 g and 120 g
  • Sweet pastry base with fruit mince filling
  • Delivered in plain, unbranded packaging
  • Outer box must be clearly labelled with bakery name, contact details, and entry number
  • An A5 description card must be provided with the entry (no logos, names, or branding)
  • No branding or identifying marks on the tarts themselves (blind judging applies)
  • Products must be delivered fully cooled
  • Entries received after 4:00 pm Tuesday will not be accepted

 

Note: By entering, bakeries consent to photography, filming, and the use of images for promotional purposes.

Judging Criteria (100 Points Total)

Appearance & Presentation (20 pts) Uniformity, professional finish, and overall visual appeal.
Pastry Quality (20 pts) Even bake, colour, texture, crispness, and structural integrity.
Filling (20 pts) Quality and balance of fruit mince, consistency, and proportion relative to pastry.
Aroma & Flavour (30 pts) Depth, harmony, and balance of flavour; clean finish between pastry and filling.
Technical Skill (10 pts) Precision, execution, and consistency across all tarts.

Tie-break rule: In the event of a tie, Aroma & Flavour scores will decide, followed by Pastry Quality. Judges’ decision is final.
